Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.
Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of that year.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.
But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.
He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.
The opponent rescued four initial chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, he earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
