Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
